Open Tabs is Sunnie’s weekly newsletter, where we share what we’ve been watching, listening to, reading, buying, and thinking about.

Roller Rabbit and Target collabed on a limited-time, colorful spring collection, and it’s fully pulling us out of our winter-neutrals rut. We’re already picturing cozy mornings in matching PJs, beach days in printed bikinis, and ice cream runs in flowy dresses. Basically, if sunshine came in clothing form, this drop would be it.

Black History Month is our reminder that so much of what makes the world creative, brilliant, and fun comes from the Black community. And there’s truly something to learn no matter what you’re into. If you’re artsy, read the work of Black poets and storytellers. Future founder? Read up on the Black inventors whose inventions shape our everyday life. Sports girlie? Read about the Black athletes who broke barriers so today’s stars could shine. If you want an easy starting point, the National Education Association is an amazing resource, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s online resources have lots of interesting online series to explore.

The Met Gala theme was announced: Fashion Is Art!! Art girls, illustrators, graphic designers… it’s your time to shine!! We’re already imagining what co-chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour are dreaming up. And with Zoë Kravitz and Anthony Vaccarello leading the host committee — plus visionaries like Sabrina Carpenter, Teyana Taylor, and more — we just know the looks are about to be unreal. We’re ready to look art right in the eye (real Met Gala fans know).

Thank you, Alysa Liu, for showing us what winning on your own terms looks like. If you’ve been off the internet lately, the 20-year-old UCLA student just scored two figure-skating gold medals — and had the time of her life doing it. After a years-long break to protect her mental health, she came back with programs that feel totally her (hello, halo hair + Stateside), proving that fun and authenticity beat perfection every time. She even took a sec to apply her Rare Beauty lip oil before stepping onto the podium. So relatable.

✦ Plus, we had some major mentorship moments at the Olympics. Simone Biles literally crashed figure skater Ilia Malinin’s Access Hollywood interview to reframe a non-ideal outcome as redirection (icon behavior). Chloe Kim talked about pushing fellow snowboarder Gaon Choi toward the gold, and Gaon called Chloe her idol — full circle moment. Even Madonna hyped up figure skater Amber Glenn. It’s easy to think the Olympics are all about medals. But this week reminded us that sometimes the real flex is passing the mic and showing someone else what’s possible.

✦ And speaking of sports, our new playbook is all about tapping into your game-winning mindset!! We collabed with the Women’s Sports Foundation to show you how to embrace your inner game. It’s got everything you need: New ways to recover after mistakes without spiraling, strategies to build confidence before you feel ready, and quotes from professional women athletes woven in as moments of inspo along the way. And TBH, you don’t need to play a sport — these skills show up everywhere else, too.

One thing about Mckenna Grace is she stays booked and busy — so it’s no surprise she’s playing Daphne in the new live-action Scooby-Doo. And because she’s Mckenna Grace… she’s also starring in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, releasing a new song, Twisting The Knife, for the SCREAM 7 soundtrack, and getting exposed for making fan edits of Peeta as a kid (who didn’t??). Sarah Michelle Gellar (the Daphne of the early 2000s era) Insta-storied that Mckenna is “going to be perfect” in the role, and we 1000% agree. Generational girl support>>>

Manon Bannerman is pressing pause with KATSEYE, taking a break to focus on her health and wellbeing. It’s proof that everyone needs real rest, even Grammy nominees. While we’ll miss seeing her moves, and we’re rooting for her to only return to the stage when it feels right for her.

We’re inspired by a viral monkey named Punch and his emotional support orangutan plush toy. The 6-month-old monkey is very cute, but he’s super resilient, too: He was taken in by the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan after being abandoned by his mother. When the zoo noticed he was struggling with anxiety and isolation, they gave him a toy that helped him adjust to his new world. So take a cue from Punch and give yourself the comfort you need to thrive — whether that’s a heating pad, a skincare ritual, or yes, even an orangutan plushie.

The Taylor Swift Method: Building a Winning Mindset for Writers (Happy Writing via Substack)

We can belt out all of Taylor Swift’s songs by heart (obviously), but learning from her lyrics is a whole new POV. Stéphane of Happy Writing transforms Tay’s lines into little lessons about creativity, resilience, and unapologetically embracing your big feelings. It’s total inspo for Swifties in their growth eras.
