Welcome to Sunnie Reads: The Stacks — where we ask our favorite people what they’re reading, recommending, and making room for on their shelves.

This month, we caught up with Raegan Revord, who you might know as Missy Cooper on Young Sheldon or as the author of their debut novel, Rules for Fake Girlfriends (we’re obsessed). They’re a bookworm so committed to the plot, they wrote one of their own. We caught up with Raegan about their reading routine, the LGBTQ+ stories they’re loving right now, and what keeps them coming back to the page.

Hey Raegan!! What do you love about reading, and what totally gets you to fall in love with a story?

I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. My parents read to me all the time when I was little. I was surrounded by a lot of readers and teachers in my family, too, so I always saw people reading and was surrounded by books.

There’s no better feeling than escaping into the world of a book. It’s a great opportunity to step in someone else’s shoes. I love when a story makes me feel seen, and honestly, I always try to find someone in a story I can relate to.

What’s your reading routine like right now?

It’s an everyday thing. No matter how busy I am, whether I'm traveling or busy with work, I make time to read. It doesn’t have to be in a “reading place,” though — I always have a book with me because I never know when I might have time for a few pages.

And I only read physical copies! I read so much that sometimes I have to get a second suitcase for all my books when I travel. Books are heavy!

We’re so excited to hear the books you’re into right now! Can you share your stack?

Of course! Here are some books I’m loving:

Say a Little Prayer by Jenna Voris

I love this book! It’s an adorable rom-com that will touch all the hopeless romantic hearts, but it also has a lot of important topics that are relevant in today’s current climate.

Fire Sword and Sea by Vanessa Riley

There are so many things that stand out to me, but the biggest are that love is fragile, and that life can be rough sometimes, but you can still find your happiness and your people.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

This book is a part of Coach’s spring campaign! I’m gonna give you one quote that summarizes the book perfectly: “I want to grab my brother's hand and run back through time, losing years like coats falling from our shoulders.”
